Job Title: Part-Time Bookseller 

Schedule: Minimum 9 hours a week, but more likely 20 hours a week after training. Monday and Tuesday availability needed, plus two other days. 


Overview: Bloodstone Books is a niche bookshop that specializes in science fiction, fantasy and horror. We are looking for someone to join the team so that our shop can be open more days during the week. We need someone with the availability listed above as well as the flexibility to fill-in when needed during events or otherwise short staffed. Additionally, skills and experience related to social media and events are a huge plus.

This is a physically active and social role that involves bending, crouching, reaching, and occasionally lifting heavy boxes. Pay begins at $17


Duties include but not limited to:

  • Follow store policies for opening, closing, and daily cash handling
  • Providing excellent customer service to folks of all ages and backgrounds 
  • Cleaning and general store maintenance (this includes sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, toilets, windows, etc.)
  • Ringing up transactions
  • Assist with special orders, online orders, holds, and customer inquiries
  • Receive, unpack, and shelve new inventory
  • Handsell books to customers
  • Assist with set up for events 
  • Assist with content creation and post scheduling 
  • Other duties as assigned 


You'll be a good fit if:

  • You can commit to the hours needed 
  • Able to commit to 1 year
  • Must be punctual with reliable attendance
  • Good communication skills
  • You take initiative, notice what needs attention, and contribute to a smooth daily workflow
  • Comfortable working independently or in a group setting
  • Take an interest in learning about current book trends, popular titles, upcoming releases, etc.
  • Love science fiction, fantasy and/or horror
  • Comfortable with technology 
  • Comfortable with the physical and social side of bookselling (handselling books to customers and moving heavy boxes)
  • Retail experience is preferred
  • Event, graphic design, and social media experience a plus.
